Cast of Ed TV Show

At the beginning of the decade there was a TV show called ED, not to be confused with the 1996 movie about a baseball playing monkey, even though coincidentally the protagonist of the TV show did go on to star in another series called Love Monkey. And speaking of the cast of ED, it was led by actor Tom Cavanagh in the title role in all four seasons. Cavanagh played a lawyer who moved back to his home town to buy a bowling alley and pursue his high school crush, while still playing his trade in the town's local court. His romantic interest was played by Julie Bowen as Carol Vessey, a high school English teacher. The two of them had a 'Sam and Diane, will-they-or-won't-they' kind of thing going on.

Ed also reconnected with his best friend Michael Burton, played by Josh Randall. Randall and Cavanagh also guest starred in another show, Scrubs, although in different episodes. ED's right hand man in the bowling alley was Phil Stubbs, portrayed by actor and comedian Michael Ian Black. Also, there was Justin Long as Warren, a high school student who was also fond of Carol. Besides being on the cast of ED, Long is probably more familiar to movie going audiences for his appearances in Galaxy Quest, Dodgeball, Live Free or Die Hard, Walk Hard and Pineapple Express, among other films.

The ED protagonist list was rounded up by Jana Marie Hupp as Michael's wife, and Lesley Boone as Carol's friend Molly. The cast also included Michael Genadry and Ginnifer Goodwin as Warren's friends, and Mike Starr, Rachel Cronin, and Daryl Mitchell as the bowling alley's staff. There were other actors as well that were originally in the ED TV cast in the unaired pilot, such as Donal Logue as Phil and Janeane Garofalo as Ed's ex wife. They were later replaced by the aforementioned Black, and by several other actresses respectively. Regular guest stars John Slattery and Sabrina Lloyd were also part of the cast of ED at one point or another. Other recognizable actors who guest starred on the show were Rena Sofer, John Goodman, David Garrison, Evan Handler, Vincent Pastore, Andrea Martin, Reiko Aylesworth, Kelly Ripa, Keir Dullea, Timothy Busfield, Danny DeVito, Dan Lauria, Horatio Sanz, Chris Parnell, Tom Wilson, Tim Matheson, Taye Diggs, Molly Shannon, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Burt Reynolds, John Cariani, Eddie Bracken, Gregory Harrison, Joanna Going, Peter Gerety, Samm Levine, Edmund Lyndeck, Charles Dumas, Melissa Errico, and many, many others. The ED TV show was canceled in 2004, but all those fans who campaigned to keep it on the air can now relive their ED TV cast favorite moments thanks to the release of ED on DVD.
